BART adds extra security for holiday season

Friday, November 23, 2007

BART is putting extra security on trains to keep riders safe during the holiday shopping season. But, the security may be hard to spot.

More undercover police officers are going to be on BART trains starting today. They will be joining uniformed officers in an effort to keep the crime rate dropping. According to the BART police the crime rate has come down 15-percent recently. They're very happy with that and they want to keep it going in that direction.

The undercover cops are working closely with San Francisco and Oakland police to give riders peace of mind. For riders out there, there is something you can do to help.

"If you got wallets put them in your front pocket. If you are traveling with bags, make them unmarked bags - you don't need to show off that you have a Neiman Marcus bag, make it plain bag. So those kinds of things will help prevent crime," said Linton Johnson, BART spokesperson.

Other security tips; travel in groups and keep small electronic equipment somewhere out of sight if at all possible. This is a holiday gift from BART to its riders.
